ABOUT:

CommUnity Wellness is a PTA Program with the mission of uniting community & inspiring well being. We understand the importance of uniting every one, both within our school and the surrounding community, towards common goals. We hope to inspire a love of well-being that lasts a lifetime. 

OUR HISTORY:

  2009  

• Wellness Committee was formed by two health-conscious mothers
• Formed online group for open dialogue & resources on Health & Wellness  
• A Spady Parent & PTA Volunteer organized a 5K to combat Childhood Obesity for the Palm Beach County Board of PTA/PTSA (See Report)
• Funds from 5K created a Wellness Grant program for schools throughout the county to create or expand Wellness programs
• Committee members became actively involved in school district's Wellness Promotion Task Force 

  2010  

• Wellness Committee evolved into CommUnity Wellness Program & grew to over 100 members
• Created PhysIQ Program that offers rigorous physical exercise led by expert instructors every day after school. Program serves up to 200 children a week
• Joined the First Lady's Let's Move program & took the HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC). We were first school in county to take the challenge!
• PhysIQ Students performed on stage at Delray Beach's annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
• PhysIQ families & PTA built a float for Delray Beach's annual Holiday Parade
• Worked with school district's School Food Service team to make healthy changes to food offered in cafeterias. Team was extraordinary & helped us meet the HUSSC standards. This work became the blueprint for any other school throughout the county to take the challenge & become eligible for grants.  

  2011  

• Wellness Committee Chair assisted another local school, Plumosa School of the Arts, to implement PhysIQ for their students
• United P.E. Coach, Cafeteria Director, Principal, PTA President & Board, Teachers & Aftercare director in health goals/standards for HUSSC
• PhysIQ Students had second annual performance on stage at Delray Beach's Tree Lighting Ceremony 

  2012 

• Spady was awarded a grant from the Get HealthierUS School Challenge
• Spady was recognized in TV, Newspaper & Radio outlets as one of the healthiest schools: Delray school listed among nation's top healthiest
